Second Grade Newsletter Week of January 23th-27th In the Classroom Spelling/Phonics: In phonics and spelling, we will be working with comparative endings. (words that end with –er and –est) We will have a spelling test on Friday. English/Writing: We will be working on the verbs am, is, are, was, and were. Our writing this week will incorporate the use of these verbs. Math: We will finish our work in Chapter 3. We will be reviewing the chapter and have a test on Thursday. Please continue to practice basic math facts (both addition and subtraction) at home. Computers: We will continue working in the Microsoft Word program. Social Studies: We will be discussing the 50 states that make up our country. We will also talk about the fact that different states have their own symbols: flags, birds, flowers, and trees. Handwriting: We will be working on the cursive letters o, n, and m. Please have the students practice the letters we have learned at home. Art: We will be making snowflakes and discussing symmetry. Classroom News: · We are approaching “100 Day”. Please have your child bring in a collection of 100 items. Let your child be creative with their collection.
